About this piece
The pyre of herbs exudes thick, pungent smoke to entice the psyche and sting the eye. Burning embers are flung out with faint popping sounds while the potion maker stirs deosil.
Potion making is ancient and universal; it’s the art of a priestess, a shaman, a healer – or perhaps someone with a darker heart: traitor, poisoner, executioner.
A legendary brew is the witches’ flying ointment – the recipe may vary though it will often include deadly nightshade (atropa belladonna), hemlock and wolfsbane. Another is the Elixir of Life, bringer of immortality and said to be the quest of the alchemists by those who misunderstood their true, metaphysical work.
